Kayleigh’s Blog

This week while working on my teacher blog I deleted all of my pages. Mr. Stengel had pointed out that it would be easier to turn some of the pages into categories and write everything as a post. I really agreed with this and started to delete the pages and add categories on my blog. Also this week I created a poll for Mrs. Sheppards students. I made it on the spanish soap opera Zarabanda that we watch in class. Students seem to like that part of her class so I thought it would be something fun and interesting that would catch students interest to keep them on the page.

Seeing as this week is going to be the final week the only thing i have to be working on is transfering all of the information onto the page. I also need to find or create a video that will show Mrs. Sheppard how to work the page and google calendar. 

Since its the final week I’m kind of sad that I wont be able to make everything perfect for her but maybe next year i can come back and visit and help her update!

This week I feel like I haven’t progressed as much as the others. I got a few things done such as finding new widgets but overall I think that the week didn’t go very well. I found a few widgets i plan on keeping on my page such as a Salvador Dali art of the day, a translator for the page, and a word by word translator. I also decided to get rid of a few of my pages because the top has beeen seeiming crowded.

One thing I have been worried about is how to get all the content on the page with it still looking alright. It is a major issue but I’m not too worried about it because I really think I can find a solution soon.

By next week I am planning on getting all my information on the pages, and also putting my pictures on. I know I’m behind on this so it is at the top of my list of things to do.

This week I think i got a lot done on my advisers blog. Though not all the work that Idid has been  to the blog yet i feel pretty accomplished. I finally decided on all the pages that i want to be shown atnd I browsed a lot of widgets looking for Spanish appropriate things to add to the page. Also i sat down with mrs Sheppard and got a lot of content that she would like to put on the page. We talked mostly about the about me page and what kind of things she would like to put on there. We sat and talked for two class periods and I think i have all the information i need and have started working on a few paragraphs that will put all that information together.

One thing I would like to know is why the website shows up different on other computers. i changed the background several times so it would match everything perfectly but when i went to use the laptop in Mr. Piselli’s room everything looked different.

The things i plan on working on next week are creating new things to put on the page. I would like to work more on the calendar and finish writing things to put on the about pages.

My long term goals have changed a little bit since last week. I had said that by the end of the project i wanted to have the website in spanish but i spoke with Mrs. Sheppard and I dont think that that is going to happen. We decided it would be too hard for all of her students too understand and if we only did a little in spanish and the rest in english it wouldn’t look very good. It was kind of dissapointing because i thought it would look really cool but I’m not going to get too down on it, I’ll just think of soemthing better to do.

While working on our teacher blogs this week I actually accomplished a lot. When I first started the blog I had the theme set as Jakarta. I found that this theme made things way to difficult to get everything I wanted done on the site. So even though it is a pretty basic layout I decided to change to the mandigo theme (which is the theme of our personal blogs). Mandigo helps provide different sidebars and places to put more content to that the page doesn’t look unbalanced or akward.

I also added more pages so that I can add more content that Senora Sheppard gives me as we go on throughout the project. I thought of a few approriate subjects on my own such as homework,schedule, and extras for widgets. I then added a page that relates directly to senoras classrom. This page was daily announcements. she likes to keep her students informed with important things happening locally or around the world. I thought it might help her to have an online place to post these things and maybe even find a widget i could put on the page that would show daily headlines.

I am planning on finding some spanish appropriate widgets that i can add to put some fun things into the website. Also I am going to add a lot of the written information that Mrs. Sheppard would like in the about me.  I’ve decided to add too about sections to the page one about the teacher and one for the class.

 My biggest long term goal for this project is to get everything translated into spanish so it can be appropraite for the class. Also I would like to get plenty of information to help students such as scanned information dittos and links to helpful websites. The last important thing i would like to do would be to sit down with the tutorials were making to show Mrs. Sheppard what she needs to do to maintain the site and how to do that.

I really have no questions at the moment and feel very comfortable with how it is progressing and I hope you are pleased with how its going also.
